Ambassador Caroline Kennedy accepted an invitation to serve as an “Honorary Member” of the U.S.-Japan Conference on Cultural and Educational Interchange (CULCON) at the 27^th plenary session on June 16-17, 2016. Presented by Chairs Ryozo Kato, Former Ambassador of Japan to the United States, and Harry A. Hill, President and CEO, Oak Lawn Marketing, Inc., the title recognizes Ambassador Kennedy’s important role in reinforcing the strong ties between the United States and Japan. Chairman Hill thanked Ambassador Kennedy for her active leadership and commitment to CULCON and its initiatives as he welcomed her as an “Honorary Member.” “Together we are creating more opportunities for students on both sides of the Pacific,” Ambassador Kennedy said, commending CULCON’s efforts in promoting cultural and educational U.S.-Japan bilateral exchanges.
During her acceptance remarks, Ambassador Kennedy also introduced “A Broader View,” a video collaboration with Japanese alumni of U.S. institutions that highlights their experiences abroad. Through this social media campaign, she aims to encourage alumni of U.S.-Japan exchange to serve as role models for future generations and inspire them to study abroad, recommending CULCON join in the effort.
Additionally, Ambassador Kennedy lauded the launch of a pilot program by the American Chamber of Commerce in Japan (ACCJ) and encouraged greater participation in the initiative. This initiative combines internships with study abroad and serves as an asset to CULCON’s goal of doubling two-way student exchange by the year 2020.
