Information Access and Sharing

CULCON recently identified a great need in enhancing the way the citizens of Japan and the United States learn about and engage with the other, with a focus on building a strong pipeline of U.S.-Japan scholars and professionals. The panelists agreed to convene a new working group, Information Access and Sharing Working Group. The working group will make recommendations to enhance access to fact-based, affordable, and balanced resources. Possible areas of investigation, among others, include expanding Japan Studies in the United States and American Studies in Japan in line with current academic and societal trends; developing ways to decrease the cost of proprietary academic databases that support Japan Studies for Japanese and U.S. universities.
