CULCON is celebrating 50 years

CULCON is celebrating 50 years since its creation in 1961 by President Kennedy and Prime Minister Ikeda. To mark the milestone, a symposium entitled, “Enhancing the US-Japan Partnership: Education and Cultural Ties in a Changing Global Context” was held in Washington, DC in May 2011.

CULCON Fourth Slider

Through biennial plenary sessions and symposia in Japan and the U.S., CULCON convenes U.S. and Japanese policymakers, scholars and business leaders who identify impediments to educational and cultural exchange and recommend solutions.

CULCON Fifth Slider

With support from the U.S. Department of State, CULCON engages and informs U.S. audiences about opportunities for educational and cultural exchange that will train the next generation in the nuances of the U.S.-Japan relationship.

CULCON Sixth Slide

The Arts Dialogue Committee is an example of CULCON in action.  The ADC tackled challenges in arts exchange between the two countries and offered a Public Forum on November 20, co-hosted by the Freer/Sackler Gallery.
